Renewing your domain, and what happens if it expires

The domain renews every year. If it expires, nothing is deleted: your site stays online and you choose what comes next.

The Professional domain is an annual offer. Each year a renewal invoice is issued before the due date, and reminders reach you as that date approaches.

The calendar

  • The renewal invoice is issued 60 days before the due date.
  • Reminders follow, by email and in your space.
  • Each of your extra email addresses has its own annual invoice.
  • The address included in the offer has none: it follows the domain.

If you pay before the due date, there is nothing else to do: the domain continues, the mailboxes continue, no interruption.

If the invoice goes unpaid

After the due date and a few days of tolerance, the service is closed. Here is exactly what happens — and what does not.

  • The domain moves to the “expired” state and stops being your site’s address.
  • Your mailboxes are SUSPENDED, never deleted: the address and its contents stay yours.
  • Your site stays ONLINE, at its Professionnalisable address — which was never taken from you.
  • Your content, your images, your invoices and your history are kept.
  • No new invoice is issued automatically.

Avoid That last point is deliberate: automatically issuing a monthly invoice while an annual one goes unpaid would put two competing debts in front of you for the same site. We do not do that.

You choose what comes next

After an expiry, your space offers two routes and picks neither for you:

  • renew your domain, and everything resumes;
  • continue with your Professionnalisable address, at 2 $ a month.

Nothing is billed until you have chosen.

Two particular cases

Archiving a site does not cancel its domain and does not refund it: the domain runs to its due date. If you want to end it sooner, write to the Support Centre.

A domain left expired for a long time can be bought by someone else at the registrar: that is no longer a platform matter. Your Professionnalisable address, however, stays yours indefinitely.

Check that your account email is one you actually read: that is where the renewal reminders go.
